How to Avoid Common Weather-Related Insurance Claims

Updated: Feb 25

As an insurance broker, we have recently noticed a significant increase in insurance claims related to weather conditions. In the past month and a bit, we have seen a rise in two major types of claims: vehicle accidents and building damage due to heavy rains.

BMW 1 Series Accident

Vehicle Accidents:

During rainy weather, the risk of a vehicle accident increases due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. We urge our clients to take preventative measures, such as keeping a safe following distance and checking both sides before crossing intersections. This will help avoid collisions and reduce the risk of injury to yourself and others.

Rain on gutter

Building Damage:

The heavy rains we have been experiencing have also led to an increase in building claims. To prevent damage to your property, we recommend that you clear your gutters, drainage systems, and flashings of any debris every three months or so. This will ensure that rainwater can flow freely and not accumulate on your roof, which can lead to water damage.

In conclusion, by taking a few simple steps, you can reduce your risk of a weather-related insurance claim. These preventative measures not only help you avoid costly repairs, but they also ensure the safety of yourself and others.
